Job Description

Summary:

Reports to Director Ambulatory Care Pharmacy. Responsible for management of ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services for Lifespan affiliates including but not limited to Rhode Island Hospital The Miriam Hospital Newport Hospital Bradley Hospital Lifespan Pharmacy LLC and Lifespan Accountable Care Organizations and Lifespan Physician Group.

Leads intra-affiliate teams on ambulatory care clinical pharmacy related projects to identify review recommend and implement operational clinical technical and financial best practices. Develops and maintains an effective work group consisting of direct report Senior Clinical Pharmacist Specialists Coordinators and indirect report pharmacists technicians and supportive personnel. Ensures that ambulatory care clinical services are provided in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards set forth by Federal and State regulatory agencies. Monitors ambulatory care clinical services through continuous quality improvement activities to ensure customer*s expectations are met or exceeded. Participates in the development and implementation of policies procedures and budgets for Ambulatory Care Clinical Services across Lifespan.

Responsibilities:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Lifespan Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Participates in the development and establishment of short and long-term goals for ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services in alignment with Lifespan*s mission values and key business objectives.

Monitors national trends in contemporary clinical pharmacy practice and continuously assesses existing services for opportunities for improvement and/or advancement.Collaborates with fellow Managers Supervisors Senior Clinical Pharmacist Specialists and other healthcare professionals for effective implementation of clinical pharmacy services.

Manages the effective utilization of resources including people finances and materials. Develops processes requisite to attaining established goals and objectives for ambulatory care areas of responsibility. Participates in the development recommendation implementation and monitoring of ambulatory care capital and operating budgets for each affiliate. Manages the development and implementation of business plans for new or expanded ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services which include goals objectives financial resource risk and outcomes assessment and return on investment calculation.Manages and provides oversight to the implementation of standards for ambulatory care clinical pharmacy operations. Develops metrics and targets related to productivity clinical outcomes and satisfaction (patient provider employee and other key stakeholders).Monitors data; develops and executes corrective actions to address variances from standard. Monitors established operating priorities to ensure ambulatory clinical care pharmacy activities support the system*s strategies.

Manages the planning design development and implementation of patient-centered and coordinated delivery of clinical pharmacy services. Manages the utilization and expansion of contemporary telehealth strategies to facilitate access to care and improve disease management.

Assists in the development of a population health framework and management strategies to improve population health outcomes through partnership of Lifespan health-system with state-wide communities.

Responsible for the effective recruitment selection development and continual evaluation of staff to optimize the achievement of goals and objectives. Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating Lifespan's values of Compassion Accountability Respect and Excellence. Communicates effectively and continually with staff colleagues management and patients. Creates employee ownership for their careers and success by providing positive and actionable feedback.

Assists in the development implementation and marketing of Lifespan*s ambulatory care programs. Effectively plans and coordinates ambulatory clinical care services with physicians other departments and outside agencies. Ensures all ambulatory clinical care activities operate to support established clinical standards of care and meet or exceed patient care quality standards and customers* needs.

Participates in the development implementation and administration of policies and procedures and provides overall management necessary to ensure high standards of care in all areas of ambulatory clinical care pharmacy. In collaboration with fellow managers assures compliance with relevant accreditation and payor standards (eg. URAC ACHC) as they pertain to areas of oversight.

Participates in councils meetings quality improvement teams and other such committees as needed. Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations to keep

abreast of trends in the industry as well as changes in regulations and legislation related to the field.

Participates in the pharmacy research and educational enterprise. Participates in the development of pharmacy student ambulatory care clinical experiences. Collaborates with residency program directors and coordinators to ensure that pharmacy residency programs are operated in accordance with American Society of Health System (ASHP) accreditation standards. Serves as a preceptor for residents and students.

Conducts pharmacy practice research clinical research and data-related research in alignment with Lifespan mission goals and priorities; authors research based original abstracts scientific and scholarly papers and submits for publication and/or presentation in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Participates and leads development of a strategic vision for the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and either:

5 years of progressively more responsible administrative experience in hospital based ambulatory care pharmacy services or equivalence.

Or

Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 program in Ambulatory Care or Pharmacy Administration and 3 years progressively more responsible administrative experience in hospital based ambulatory care pharmacy services or equivalence.

MBA MHA or other Masters* level degree in an applicable field highly desirable.

Maintains current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.

SUPERVISION:

Supervises up to 6 direct reports.

Supervises up to 50 indirect reports.
